Margot

I know the bandwagon for Margot & the nuclear so and so filled up a long time ago but i've been listening to them more and more and am constantly impressed with the songs.

Ben Harper

While Both Sides of the Gun wasn't as good as i had hoped i still have nothing but love for Ben Harper. In honor of Black History month here is an amazing melding of Ben's music and Maya Angelou's poetry.

By the way how amazing are those tattoos? If you find a good design you might as well go big. Here's one of my favorite Harper tunes.

Remember the video where he's playing at the bottom of the pool and people are skating around him?
Here are a bunch of vintage skate decks and more here.

Malajube

Sometimes i wonder why i like music so much. I've had plenty of interests through the years but nothing has lasted so long or stayed as strong as my obsession with music. I used to say that music had to have a good melody for me to love it but i quickly learned the value of noise. I also used to think that lyrics had a big role in why i liked music, but what about instrumentals and foreign language bands like Malajube. The Beat used to be all important(I am a drummer for pete's sake) but what about the guy all alone with an amazing voice and a lightly plucked guitar. I guess what really gets me about music is the emotion involved. The emotion in music can be achieved using all of the above or none of the above and that's a large part about what's so amazing and incomprehensible about music.
Time for some French- Canadian goodness. If lyrics are a huge part of your listening enjoyment and you don't speak French then this probably isn't the band for you. The all French disc Trompe l'oeil is worth a listen no matter what language you speak. This is good poppy indie rock, in French. Check out the videos on their official site.

Arcade fire revs up

Excitement over the new Arcade Fire release Neon Bible is building. Last night NPR broadcast a live show from the bands stand in New York City along with some interviews. Next week the band will be the musical guest on SNL and then on March 6th the new album drops. The new album is amazing, each time i hear it i like it more and more, a lot like my reaction to Funeral. I'm ordering the deluxe version of the album. Tickets for the Boston show on 5/10 go on sell on the 23rd. The Montreal shows(5/12 and 5/13) go on sell 3/2.

Rock art

What Would Jesus Blog(WWJB) has a great post about music inspired tattoos. There are some really nice pieces out there. I have to wonder about some of the bands that are imortalized in flesh. I know my tastes change fairly frequently but i've only been tempted by a music tattoo once. Years ago I was very close to getting the word Ritual tattooed on the back of my neck in honor of an amazing Jane's Addiction album the thing that stopped me was the fact that Perry Farrell had the tattoo first.

Tribe

In my book A Tribe Called Quest was one of the greatest groups of the nineties. Their first album was amazing, I listened to it ad nauseum when i first got it, in fact it is still in rotation at my house today.

Cold weather

Converse with moose printed all over them are not a good choice in weather like this. I never thought I'd be a person who describes a day in the mid 20's as "beautiful weather".
I'm falling behind on my posts but my damn picture project is taking up most of my computer time.

I'll post soon on Malajube, The new Clap your hands, Menomena, and Lily Allen.

Unexplained phenomenon

Someone explain to me how this is physically possible. Note the position of the ball and and recognize G!'s jumping skills.I found the pictures from one of the Scoregasm matches and thought i'd share.
