How bout this?

How about this track? Sukie in the graveyard
or possibly my favorite track from the new album Dress up in you.

I love the music. I really love them and their sound. But, I feel like I haven't heard anything "new" from them. Their music hasn't changed or evolved in my opinion. If I listen to their first album I feel like I hear the same thing when I listen to this album. But, don't get me wrong the music is good and I especially liked the Sukie song. Thank you for sharing it.

of course it sounds like belle and sebatian- omg, that voice is undeniable...but to say they have not evolved? really? have you listened to storytelling or 'sinister lately? dear catostrophe waitress was huge for me, too- but this album is by far their best. (according to the band as well- in fact they have suggested this may be it because they want to end it on a high note) to me this album shows the result of their evolution. they hit it w/ this one. i admit, there have been albums where i may not love (or even like) every song... or some songs that are just too deeply personal for them at the time and don't seem pertinant now. They have also evolved in members- losing isobelle turned out to be a good thing. (in the end result- but it affected their sound for sure) many of the members they have now are new to the last 2 albums.. i think they have improved on what they do well. they are still belle and sebastian, yes (thankfully so) and yes, their sound is distinct, but to say that they have not somehow changed or evolved is more than unfair- it is simply untrue. it is too bad you cannot enjoy/ appreciate that.

wow lulu that is a rant. Hey it';s only a band.
Personally I think about 2/3rds of their stuff is redundant
cutesy and derivative without really advancing the influences upon which they feed.
Perhaps they have evolved - but I could not tell one period in their recording from another
That said of course it's enjoyable and I could imagine having a really good time at a show.
Anyway there is no truth or untruth in evaluating a band. And what's unfair is to lay it on someone as "not being able" to appreciate anyone. You know, like I cannot understand why you'd say Bob Dylan is "over rated" or whatever that crack was, but maybe he is. None of it means there is anything right or wrong about how people react to him.
I'm glad you love B&S and Iron and Wine and you know, whatever you like.
I happen to think neither of those bands will mean much to people a few decades from now, because I don't think either has brought anything all that original to the world of music.
But I also think people who make music any kind of music - well, it is hard to hold them to any standard - most of them bring enjoyment to other people and I am pretty sure none of them brings any harm to anyone.
But I think some robust discourse is a good thing.
If you or dia or Mark or your kids make music or pix or stories- anything no oine here would put them down - you are family.
But these other people Dylan, Belle and sebastion etc are strangers and they get paid a lot of money and they are fair game.

Occasionally musicians sever as benchmarks virtually impossible to shrug off in any way - they earn their place by profound originality - like, who could come up with anything negative to say about Bach or Mozart or Leadbelly or Louis Armstrong or John Lennon --- you know what I'm saying here.
You are not Belle and Sebastion, Dia is not Beastie Boys, I am not Bob Dylan. ( Mark may possibly be Ryan Adams but that is for another post) so lets have fun and not take these things so personally.
Except if it's about Chuck Norris. We'd have to go to the mat on Him.
LuLu take a time out, get a t-shirt and smile smile smile.

fine, really it does not matter to me if you like them or not. i just think it is odd to say, "i like (insert band)- this album sounds like (insert band)- so I don't really like this album by (insert band)" I don't need a time out. i don't understand why i get chastized by you for going on a tangent about something- when you do it all the time.

i am smiling, by the way. did not mean to step on toes, just giving my opinion. i like music discussions- and yes i am aware that i am not belle and sebastian (i wasn't sure before)- but i am justified to say what i think. (so is everyone else)

But I LOVE (insert band) and I loath (insert band) because (insert band) rocks and (insert band) is lame.
Nothing odd about that.
Come on admit it you weren't smiling you were all in a tizzy.
"but to say that they have not somehow changed or evolved is more than unfair- it is simply untrue. it is too bad you cannot enjoy/ appreciate that."
Tizzzzy.
(insert your name) needs chastizing when (insert my name) decides (inserts your name) need it.
After all (insert my name) am here on behalf of the Spanks (insert your name) blog.

Ok OK I am just here to evolve

it is called a conclusion to my arguement. (not a tizzy) it is where i show (sans doute) that i am right and (insert name) is wrong. mark is familiar with my style. i like to end w/ flair- drama even.

I lost the thread of that discussion after the mark may be ryan adams part, after that i was banging starlets and gulping wine and all the while writing awesome songs. I wrote two new ones while Lindsey blew me... I rock
